Corralejo is the main tourist resort situated on the northern tip of the island. Although the amazing seven mile stretch of golden beaches & sand dunes is probably the major attraction here, along with the almost guaranteed sunshine no matter what the season, there is more to Corralejo than sun, sea & sand!

The Harbour Area

The original part of the town is based around the old harbour, which was used by local fishermen. Here the small sheltered beach, playa la Clavellina, provides safe bathing for locals and holidaymakers alike.

Corralejo harbour has been enhanced with a promenade which runs alongside the water. There are plenty of bars, restaurants & cafes set amidst the old style buidings for you to sit & while away a couple of hours just watching the world go by....

The harbour consists of a marina for pleasure craft and room for the ferry services to Lanzarote and Lobos, a small island that is a 15 minute ferry ride from Fuerteventura. The crossing to Lanzarote takes around 30 minutes & is well worth the trip for the opportunity to spend a day exploring the neighbouring island.

There are various excursion options available with glass bottom boats, deep sea fishing, jetski hire and so on. Bookings for these can be made at one of the booths dotted about the area.

There are also several more beaches in the immediate area. The ones closest to the town centre are family friendly as they provide a safe environment, and they are also close to the facilities that a family may need.

Corralejo Town

Within the resort there are many shops, restaurants & bars, especially running along the main street. Clothes, souvenirs, cosmetics & other amenities can be easily purchased here.

There is a wide range of international cuisine available, including chinese, indian, mexican, american, italian & more authentic Canarian restaurants offering local dishes, including the locally caught seafood. 'Music Square' which is located towards the harbour area provides live local entertainment, but there are also plenty of English & Irish bars with entertainment such as Sky Sports & kareoke, should you feel homesick!

Baku Family Park

Three different areas provide hours of fun for the whole family.

There is the waterpark which has a large variety of slides, wavepool, mini golf & much more; the Animal Experience, where you have the chance to swim with the sealions; and Parque Europa, with children's playground, rock climbing, haunted house, ten pin bowling, bingo & loads of other activities.

There is also a restaurant here & the local market with a wide array of stalls is held here every Monday & Friday from 10am to early afternoon.

The Beaches - Grandes Playas

Corralejo is surrounded by sand dunes & miles of white sandy beaches which stretch far and wide along the east coast & form the Parque Natural nature reserve. Most of these beaches have sun bed and umbrella rental.

Flag beach, running between Punta de Tivas and the Tres Islas hotels is one of the best places to try water sports such as windsurfing and kitesurfing. The beach is exposed to the wind and this makes an ideal place to pursue those activities that require a little more life in the water. Circular stone structures provide a windbreak for those that just want to take advantage of Fuerteventura's sunny climate. When the tide is out there are rockpools and small waders come in to feed.

For the more experienced watersport enthusiast, try 'Glass beach'. Or if you don't fancy anything too strenuous 'Drop beach' is a bit further along the main road.

With crystal clear waters & miles of sandy beaches, it's not surprising that some of these dunes are used for fashion photo shoots & TV advertisements. A few Kilometers out of Corralejo there a couple of giant RIU hotels which dominate the best section of beach - a beach that stretches for 7km.

There is a bus which runs between Corralejo & the two giant RIU hotels every 30 minutes in either direction, but a walk along the beach is a lovely way to pass a couple of hours, or longer if you like to stay awhile. A taxi back to Corralejo costs around 5€.
